TABT…Simply Irresistible, Jill Shalvis

Thought I’d jump into a new/old format a bit before the New Year. I’m gonna begin reviewing again, but only the books I enjoy, just ’cause what torpedoes my rowboat might leave yours alone!

I was feeling a bit punky yesterday and today, so settled in with a book I’d been saving for just such a day, Jill Shalvis’ Simply Irresistible. To start with, 99.9% of the time I find Jill’s writing to be purty darn close to irresistible, and this was no exception. This is the beginning of a new trilogy called “Lucky Harbor” and introduces us to Phoebe Traeger’s three estranged daughters, all brought together on the occasion of her death to renovate or sell the beaten-up Lucky Harbor Resort. This is Maddie and Jax’s story, and we know, almost from page one, that it’s gonna be an explosive courtship.  There’s nothing I like better than learning to like and enjoy a character as the story unfolds, and Shalvis is brilliant at that.  Maddie is flawed as hell, but she’s also funny, brave and intelligent, and those are the things Jax is drawn to from the start.  As for Jax, what woman wouldn’t want a man like him?  Hunky, smart & kind…oh,and looks hella good in jeans and a toolbelt.  Sigh.

The introduction of sisters Tara and Chloe is also flawless…we learn about them as we need to, as they become real people with real pasts and fears.  At the end of this book Chloe is still a bit of an enigma, but the lead in to the next book (Tara & Ford’s) made me all growly when I realized I’d have to wait until April to read it.  No fair!

If you want something that’ll make you smile like a dreamer, giggle like a schoolgirl and maybe tear up just the tiniest bit, then go grab this one, you won’t be disappointed!

Survived Christmas, and writing update!

We made it through Christmas with our sanity reasonably intact (tho that’s certainly open to interpretation).  Did some shopping and such this morning, then I parked on the sofa and did some promo/Liquid Silver work as well as critting for a friend.

Then I drug out the whiteboard and updated where I thought I needed to go with Kiss Me Deadly, since I’m really close to the middle, which is probably why I’ve been stalling *G*.  I think it helped me out tremendously, but I guess we’ll see if I avoid the dreaded sagging middle.

Got 1750 words done in about an hour, and they were all “good” words, so I’m pretty pleased.  Even though this book is in first person (the heroine’s POV), I think the hero comes through pretty clearly, though that’ll probably be my biggest area of rewrites on the next pass after I type “the end”, just to make sure I get him right.

Tomorrow we de-Christmasize the house, and on Tuesday the hubster heads back to work for a few days, so I’m gonna try to continue the 1500 word minimum/day at least through the New Year, tho I can see myself doing significantly more on the days I’m alone *G*.

Okay, now off to watch an episode of Eureka on Netfix as my reward, before I head to bed.

Talk atcha soon!

Merry Christmas to all!

Taking a moment here while the hubster is at Mass to drop in and say Hi, and wish everyone a merry Christmas.

Been hella busy getting set up for the holiday, and doing a bit of writing.  I’ll be by myself for a few days next week, and my hope/plan is to finish the first draft on Kiss Me Deadly and get it out to my beta readers after the first of the year.  Cross fingers!

As a bit of the “year in review”, I weighed in before I started the holiday break, and lost ten pounds over the last year!  While not the twenty-five I’d set my goal as, I’ll take anything I can get, and now I’m resetting my goal for 2011 at twenty-five pounds.  We’ll see what happens…it took me 19 years of steady meals to gain the weight, so I don’t expect to lose it in a flash *G*.

Have a fabulous Christmas, and I’ll talk to you next week!
